The Young and Hungry Festival of New Theatre is an awesome chance to experience the next wave of youth theatre talent.
Young & Hungry started life back in 1994 at BATS as a series of one act plays designed to give young people, aged between 15-25 years, the opportunity to work in a professional theatre environment.
Every year BATS hosts an energetic ensemble of young actors, designers and technicians, supported by industry professionals to create a festival of three new shows.
Over a series of workshops and development sessions three scripts by some of our brightest up-and-coming writers are chosen, developed and staged.
Many theatre practitioners have worked on Young & Hungry productions and gone on to have careers in professional theatre, film and TV. These alumni include writers such as Jo Randerson, Riwia Brown, Hone Kouka, and Briar Grace-Smith; directors such as Taika Waititi (Eagle vs. Shark, Boy) and Conrad Newport (Niu Sila, The Cape, Conjugal Rites); and actors such as Loren Taylor (Kombi Nation, Eagle vs. Shark), Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), Michelle Ang (Neighbours, My Wedding and Other Secrets) and Leon Wadham (Go Girls).
The Festival looks for new talent every year. Find out more about Young & Hungry.
