“Family will always be there…” or will they? An intergenerational story of birth, death, and all the expectations we have for family in-between.
Blood Relative is a solo autobiographical dramatic re-telling by genderqueer artist and fertility-challenged Ren Lunicke (of the award-winning dark comedy “Ze”: queer as f*ck!) featuring Ren’s disapproving radical evangelical mum and Ren’s beloved grandmother, whom they care-take in the months prior to her passing.
All three generations struggle in the shadow of death to dominate the narrative of what makes a “happy family.” Constantly disappointed by their expectations for biological bonds, they must examine the power and possibility to redefine and remake "family" for oneself.

The Creative Team
Zir Productions is the umbrella production company of international performance artist and writer Ren Lunicke.
Originally based on their hit show "Ze": queer as f*ck! and the Ze/Zir gender neutral pronoun, Zir Production's mission is to create live performances that break through the illusion of opposites towards a more connected world. Through storytelling, comedy, theatre, and live art they take audiences on an experience "beyond all binaries."
