2022 TAHI: New Zealand Festival of Solo Performance
A rich celebration of Aotearoa Storytelling.
TAHI Festival is a ten-day event from 8-17 September dedicated to showcasing the finest and most engaging solo performances from all around Aotearoa.
2022 will mark the fourth annual event and will be the biggest yet with 18 shows in three venues across Te Whanganui-a-Tara and includes four Workshops to upskill and encourage professionals and emerging storytellers alike.
The full 2022 TAHI Festival programme is out now and features exciting emerging work and acclaimed returning work, including 2022 Fringe Festival smash hit Gag Reflex: A Scandalous Solo Show by Rachel Atlas, whānau friendly puppet show Party Pigs! by Little Dog Barking Theatre Company and the welcome return of the brilliant Krishnan’s Dairy by Indian Ink Theatre Company.
Festival Director and Co-Producer Sally Richards is thrilled to present this stellar programme saying;
“Our festival is an opportunity for artists to share their unique stories with us all. These stories reflect our diverse experiences and our place(s) in a changing world. The story-telling is driven by the one performer but allows for many other collaborators – writers, directors, designers, producers, and/or musicians, who contribute to make a work for audiences.”

A few TAHI Festival programme highlights include:
JOY Joy is a collection of six new monologues by female and non-binary writers especially commissioned for TAHI 2022. Excavating the highs and lows of; menopause, child-birth, freedom, whānau, whakapapa, and acceptance, writers Henrietta Bollinger, Mel Dodge, Stevie Greeks, Ren Lunicke, Indigo Paul, and Elspeth Tilley explore what Joy means to them.

CONFESSIONS OF A SLEEPWALKING INSOMNIAC by Helen Vivienne Fletcher
Based on the true story of a series of things that didn’t really happen, playwright Helen
Vivienne Fletcher draws on her lifetime of sleep misadventures in this new solo play.

TITLE AND DEED by Will Eno
Actor/Director Steven Ray is bringing this acclaimed monologue to Aotearoa for the first time. Title and Deed is a provocative new work by Will Eno, whom the New York Times called "a Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation.”
