Pudgy Mediocre White Men Solve Your Problems

Pudgy Mediocre White Men Solve Your Problems

A self-satire improv show debuting October 18-22 @ 8pm

Dave and Bryan invite you to the “Hataitai Bowling Club” for a night of fun where we'll help solve your problems through the power of improv! We've been doing community classes for six months now, and we're ready to share what we've learned with the world! There's no qualm or quarrel you can't Spacejump™ your way out of! So bring your gripes, your mates and your favourite Keith Johnstone tome for a night you'll never forget!

Pudgy Mediocre White Men is an improvised self-satire created by Poneke's beloved improv sons Dylan Hutton (Poprox, Playshop LIVE, The Adults Are Talking) and Austin Harrison (Poprox, Magnus Steele, The Improvisers). The show debuted as a winning act at Late Night Knife Fight in 2021 and will takeover BATS theatre’s Dome for five hysterical nights in October.

THERE IS A CERTAIN KIND OF JOY IN SEEING PERFORMERS WHO LIKE EACH OTHER PERFORM ON STAGE TOGETHER, AND THAT IS CERTAINLY OBVIOUS IN THIS PIECE.
Em Maguire, Theatreview

Co-creator Austin Harrison says about the show “honestly Dylan and I just wanted an excuse to hang out and try something together. We were pretty surprised and humbled to win the Knife Fight last year and then doubly shocked to be offered a spot at BATS.” Harrison thinks the show’s appeal lies in being self-aware without being too self-deprecating “The characters we play are very much versions of ourselves, and sort of play-off the stereotypes of what we think people imagine when we say oh yeah, I’m an improviser. We’re definitely taking the mickey out of ourselves but the characters absolutely like each other which makes the whole show warm and fun.”

Hutton and Harrison met while studying theatre at Te Herenga Waka and are delighted to welcome follow alumni Charlotte Glucina (Horny and Confused) and Scott Maxim (Paper Jam, When Booty Calls) to help bring the show to full-scale. Glucina will provide live musical scoring for the show as well as her trademark comedic genius, while Maxim operates the lights to bring theatricality to the performance- both no mean fete when everyone is making it up on the spot.

Pudgy Mediocre White Men Solve Your Problems is on October 18-22, 8pm at BATS Theatre’s Dome stage. Tickets are from $15 and are available HERE.
