So You Wanna Make Work at BATS?
BATS is an affordable home for emerging and independent artists to create work that pushes boundaries, challenges norms, and reflects the vibrant, diverse voices of Pōneke (and beyond). We celebrate work that is collaborative, multi-disciplinary, brave, and imaginative. Whether you're a first-time theatre-maker or a seasoned artist returning to BATS to experiment and develop something new.
What We Offer
When you present your show at BATS, you’re not doing it alone. Here’s some of the support you can expect:
- Box office & ticketing: Managed through our online platform: we handle the ticketing setup and sales, so you don’t have to stress.
- Promotional support: Your show will be featured in our BATS Newsletter, promoted via social media, and given its own show page on our website.
- Performance spaces: We’re accepting submissions for all types of live art across our four spaces: The Stage, The Dome, The Studio, and The Pit Gallery.
- Marketing & tech support: You’ll have access to our experienced technical and marketing teams to help bring your vision to life.
WHY bats?
We want to keep costs as low and accessible as possible. Instead of charging a flat hire fee like other venues, BATS uses a risk-share model. That means:
- Along with a small fee per ticket, we take 20% of overall ticket sales
- You pay some nominal venue fees proportional to how the show goes
- You don’t need to sell out every night just to cover costs
- Our priority is 5 night seasons or longer, we will consider smaller seasons under special circumstances.
This model allows you to focus on the art, not the financial stress.
