A Message From Te Auaha
Tena koutou,
Artists have again been hit hard and as we all know the cancellation of events continues. Te Auaha values our creative community and acknowledges the struggles artists are currently facing.
Considering this we’ve decided to open the doors to Tapere Nui at no cost in April 2022 for artists who want to develop, explore or create new work in an amazing space with state of the art equipment.
If you’re a recent grad, an emerging independent artist or a company that has never had the chance to play in a theatre for a week then here’s your opportunity.
Te Auaha Creative Development
- X 4 one week (six day) creative development slots throughout April 2022
- Aimed at emerging independent artists and companies but larger organisations may apply
- More attention will be given to those projects that are creatively ambitious and those who want to make the most of the facilities and its equipment. If you’re just looking for a space for your band to rehearse in for a week instead of your mum’s garage, then you might be out of luck
- Due to RED there will be no public performances of the work. Small showings or presentations to invited guests may be permitted at the end of the development week
- All participants must have a valid vaccine pass to access Te Auaha
- Applications are open to artists who practice in the following artforms and cultural areas:
- Dance
- Music
- Ngā Toi Māori
- Pacific Arts
- Theatre
- Visual arts
- Film
- Multidisciplinary (pretty much anything goes really!)
What will Te Auaha provide?
- Tapere Nui for six days 9am – 10pm (dates on attached application form)
- Access to technical equipment normally provided in the theatre
- A house tech to help you get things going, advise on equipment use, teach you how to create that enchanted forest effect you’ve always wanted to try out, etc
- Wi-fi and smiles
What are our expectations of the artists?
- Abide by our Covid 19 controls at all times
- Value the opportunity and make great work!
- Please be honest about what you can commit to in the week. For example, if your company members all have daytime jobs and will only be working nights, please tell us so we can then make the day times available to other applicants
