We're Hiring a Technical and Facilities Manager

We’re looking for a Technical and Facilities Manager to join our small, dynamic team as soon as possible.

BATS Theatre is a performance venue in Wellington, New Zealand, with three different spaces artists can present and develop work: The Stage, The Dome and The Studio. BATS's vision is to light up lives through our work.

BATS has a vibrant programme throughout the year. It is a presenting venue for an array of festivals Including but not limited to: NZ Fringe Festival, Kia Mau Festival, Six Degrees Festival, New Zealand Improv Festival, The Annual BATS Summit (TABS), New Zealand festival of Solo Performance (Previously known as TAHI), New Zealand Comedy Festival and DAFT: Disabled Artists' Festival of Theatre.

We’re looking for a Technical and Facilities Manager to join our small, dynamic team as soon as possible. 

This role requires a few years experience as a venue technician with a desire to grow your own skills and assist others to develop their abilities.  If you are someone who likes working in a collaborative, mutually supportive, close knit team to aid creatives in bold and brave art-making this is the job for you! 

The role will work alongside a new venue tech position and help BATS in a refreshed approach to delivery within  Tō Tātou Rautaki - Our Strategic Journey.  This role is scoped at 32 hours a week (negotiable)  to  enable you to have your own arts practice and a healthy work life balance. 

Role Purpose

This role is for a technician with experience in all aspects of live theatre production, both technical/design and procedural (i.e. Health & Safety, production people management  etc.). It is an operational role, ensuring BATS is a safe and healthy work environment and entertainment venue by working with artists, creative practitioners, hirers, contractors and property management. You will support the development of a new venue technician role as part of a refresh of BATS technical delivery.

The primary focus of this role is maintaining and sustaining a functioning venue at all levels.
