Sameena Zehra (Tangata Tiriti) is an award winning performer, writer and director.
Her peripatetic life has taken her touring around the world; from Edinburgh Fringe to Australia, Europe and the US, and brought her to rest and play in Aotearoa, her adopted home.
Before moving to Aotearoa in 2019, Sameena lived and worked in the UK where she performed at the National Theatre, and toured internationally with the Royal Shakespeare Company. More recently, she was nominated ‘Outstanding performer’ at the Wellington Theatre Awards for her critically acclaimed show ‘Tea with Terrorists’.
An intersectional activist and humanist, at the core of Sameena’s practice is collaboration, mentoring and devising, using storytelling and humour to hold power to account, and bringing people together in spaces that are tender and robust.
She is the co-Artistic Director of ‘The Magnificent Weirdos’, a production company created with the aim of putting access and inclusion at the heart of making art.
