A Bit Dramatic
Presented by Oh, Artemis!
Bossy. Nag. Lazy. Quitter. Hysterical. High-maintenance. Too much.
A Bit Dramatic follows the stories of three women, at formative stages in their lives, and explores how the labels we acquire throughout our lives shape our actions, decisions and the people we become.
Inspired by real journal entries, improvisers will navigate the labyrinth of challenges women face when making their way in a world not built by or for them. From the absurd and comedic to the tender and raw, and everything in between. This is a show for anyone that’s ever felt the weight of a label dragging them down.
“This festival blows me away with its skill and generosity... In short it is a breath-taking, giddying display of mastery.”

Oh, Artemis! is a performance collective based in Meanjin (Brisbane), Australia. Artemis, goddess of the hunt and protector of women and their choices, saw what marriage meant for the women in her life and fought for her right to never marry or belong to any man. Artemis, quite literally, gave no fucks. Today, women everywhere draw strength from this ancient Grecian goddess and her fierce self-advocacy as we fight for our own bodily autonomy and right to exist free from the shackles of the patriarchy. With a blend of comedy and drama, the improvised and scripted performances brought to life by Oh, Artemis! make a conscious effort to centre women’s stories and encourage women everywhere to unapologetically take up space.
NZIF is back for 2023, with a week-long celebration of all things spontaneous, featuring shows, workshops and events all hosted right here at BATS. Come and be part of the magic!
