Dr Drama Makes a Show
Presented By Theatre of Love
When Dr Drama makes a show, expect the unconventional.
As James Wenley gazed upon a portrait of his namesake and great great great grandfather hanging in the Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh, he realised there was a show he needed to make.
Dr Drama 1 unpacks James’ relationship with masculinity, performance, and whiteness, while letting you into the secrets of how the show itself was made. Using comedic storytelling, multimedia, and dance, James takes audiences on an intellectually stimulating and thoroughly entertaining academic and personal journey.
“Funny, thought-provoking, moving, fast-paced, well-written docu-comedy based on [James’] life experiences. He left us with many burning questions about our place and responsibility in society.”
Directed by Rachael Longshaw-Park, this show makes an urgent inquiry about what it means to own up to your past and present self to come to terms with your identity.
Enrol now in Dr Drama 1 for “an intimate and revealing peek at what’s going down in the Humanities Departments at our universities.” (Paul Simei-Barton, NZ Herald)
Best Original Content Nominee - NZ Fringe Awards 2020
