El Camp Machismo
Presented By Playnet Productions
El Camp Machismo is a satirical comedy-drama solo show about a male Latin-American 'life coach' named, Don Alexandro Da Costa, who is teaching boys how to be 'men'. It is a critique on toxic masculinity in Latin culture (writer and actor Max Nunes-Cesar's culture). Throughout the show, life-changing incidents begin to occur in Alexandro's personal life that start to make him rethink his beliefs. Through this story, we examine his upbringing, the traumas and cultural customs that led to his machismo, and perhaps the resolution to it all.
Contains themes and content of misogyny, homophobia, domestic violence, and suicide.
Creative Info: Max Nunes-Cesar is a local actor and theatre-maker in Wellington. His main interests are in acting and writing, having worked in various theatre and film projects, most notably popular projects like Second Unit at Circa Theatre, Twelfth Night in 2019's Six Degrees Festival, and Popcorn at Gryphon Theatre, for which he received a Wellington Theatre Show Actor award nomination.
