Making Up Grades

Making Up Grades

Directed by Gabrielle Raz-Liebman

Get ready for a night of youthful exuberance, Gen Z humour, and wholesome good times. Student troupes aged 11 to 18 from schools across Pōneke will battle it out for laughs, glory, and extra credit. Expect games, expect short, sharp scenes, expect a rollercoaster of emotions — but most of all, expect the unexpected. This is improv without the impediment of a fully developed frontal cortex. So brace yourselves, ‘cos we heard from the kids that this show is going to be fire?!?

This festival blows me away with its skill and generosity... In short it is a breath-taking, giddying display of mastery.

Gab Raz is an improviser, theatre-maker and teacher based in Pōneke, but originally hailing from across the ditch. She has trained extensively through the Victorian College of the Arts, the John Bolton Theatre School and The Improv Conspiracy in Melbourne. She loves theatre that can make people simultaneously cry with laughter and wonder. Her solo devised theatre show ‘Being Prey’ debuted at NZ Fringe 2022, where she got eaten by a crocodile. Catch her performing regularly with The Big Hoo-Haa Pōneke or corralling teens on stage and in the classroom.

NZIF is back for 2023, with a week-long celebration of all things spontaneous, featuring shows, workshops and events all hosted right here at BATS. Come and be part of the magic!
