OWE
Written by Jack McGee. Presented by Squash Co. Arts Collective
Adria’s transmission is shot, and she can’t afford to fix it. Her girlfriend, Mel, offers to pay. Mel doesn’t have the money. She asks her Aunt Jennifer. Jennifer is squeezed with the mortgage. Her son Steven owes her a few grand. Maybe she can get that back?
Loosely inspired by La Ronde, Arthur Schnitzler’s 19th century satire about interlinking lovers, Owe follows twelve individuals down a chain of debt and difficult conversations. With crackling dialogue, a sense of humour, and one hell of an ensemble, Squash Co’s newest work casts a wide lens on the cost of living crisis.
The play weaves a sincere tapestry of human interdependence in a world of shrinking wallets, narrowing worldviews, and closing borders. With twelve, short, eclectic scenes, Owe moves fast and keeps you wanting more.
