The Awakening

Rambler Collective

We follow Rory as she disocvers magic that could bring back her brother from the dead. However, the mysterious man weilding this power has his own agenda, which begs the question: What price will they have to pay? As Rory finds strength in herself and grapples with the loss of a defining figure in her life, we explore grief in young adults (18-21) in our home of Aotearoa.

Created as part of Te Herenga Waka’s Six Degrees Festival The Awakening is an empowering and emotional devised project written by emerging playwright Rachel Tuki and directed by Rebecca Wetherly.

Image credit: Jesse Kennigton. Image description: The core image of the poster is three characters, all standing. The first, the protagonist Rory, is facing forward and looking up slightly. Behind her and looming over her is the antagonist Zee and her brother Eddie. Zee appears to be in shadow, with one hand extending toward the viewer. In this hand is a ball of red magic, which is shooting wispy tendrils across the poster. Eddie appears to be a little faded, and is largely facing away from the viewer, with his head turned over his shoulder. The background is split into two pieces, with the smaller piece taking up the top quarter to fifth of the page. This smaller piece is white, with sketches of trees and a sketch of a superhero dog character. This section is separated from the rest of the image with a paper tearing effect, as if someone has ripped the bottom of this section off to reveal the rest of the poster. The rest of the background is a dark forest, with long tall trees going off into the distance.
