THE NEST: Street Dance Solo Festival platforms, amplifies and centres the theatre work of Street Dance Artists of the Moana and beyond!

Curated by Ooshcon and Jahra Wasasala, THE NEST: Street Dance Solo Festival follows in the footsteps of festivals like London's Breakin' Convention. This special festival is a place for Street Dance artists and audiences to exchange, talanoa and up-skill, whilst centering Street Dance forms of knowledge that are inherently connected to global Indigenous communities. The featured artists presenting new solo work for THE NEST: Street Dance Solo Festival for it's season at BATS Theatre are: Karamera, Jay Mita and Renee Sharp.

The week-long festival presents original works by three solo artists who will bring the street styles of Hip Hop, Krump, Vogue, Animation and Waacking from the streets of Te Whanganui-a-Tara onto the floor of BATS Theatre. Join us for a week of solo performances, talanoa panels, dance cyphers, photographic exhibitions, and celebration of our local Street Dance Artists!

THE NEST: Street Dance Solo Festival and our artists acknowledge the Indigenous people of Te Ātiawa/Taranaki ki Te Upoko o Te Ika and the Black and Latinx communities and pioneers of Hip Hop, Vogue, Waacking, Krump and the other street style dance forms being presented in this festival.
