Theatresports
Since time immemorial (aka the late 80s) kiwis up and down the country have loved the thrills, the spills, and the spontaneous chills of Theatresports™, the competitive, fast-paced improv classic. And for many teens, Theatresports™ has been their first taste of comedy, improv, and the stage, with many alumni of youth programmes going on to become household names.
And now... Theatresports™ is back in the capital! This Thursday 9 April we are thrilled to bring you a one-off exhibition match, to whet your appetite for the improv to come.
In Theatresports™, two teams fearlessly take the stage and with no scripts, they take turns performing scenes, playing games, telling stories and creating characters entirely spontaneously. For this exhibition match two scratch teams will face off: game by game, story by story, scored by our judges and inspired by you, our audience. Who will be victorious? Who will be ridiculous? Who will receive the first 5 point score from the judges?
We are also thrilled to announce the return of the Pōneke Theatresports™ Youth Programme for high school students taking place in term 2 and culminating in a season of performances in early July at BATS Theatre. The exhibition match is followed by a Q&A session for anyone interested in our youth programme or in improvisation in general who wants to find out more.
