Cadence Chung

Composer, Producer, Performer, Playwright
Cadence Chung is a poet, student, musician, and composer from Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington. Her work has been published widely, and she has released three poetry books: 'anomalia' (Tender Press, 2022), 'Mythos: an Audio-Visual Anthology of Art by Young New Zealanders' (Wai-te-Ata Press, 2024), and 'Mad Diva' (Otago University Press, 2025). Cadence is one of the founders and editors of Symposia Magazine, and the managing editor of 'a fine line', the New Zealand Poetry Society's quarterly magazine. She is also a regularly-engaged classical singer, having performed with companies such as NZ Opera, Wellington Opera, Days Bay Opera, and the Stroma New Music Ensemble. Her performance career has won many prizes, including the FAME Emerging Practitioner Award in 2023. Her original musical, 'In Blind Faith', was written and staged in her last year of high school (2021). Its first professional season was staged at BATS in 2022 to a sold-out audience. Her second play, 'Hector', was staged at BATS in 2024.
