How To Play Fantastic Games

Written by Zody Takurua

In a last ditch attempt to distance herself from her family, Victoria signs up for what she thinks is a brand new housing experiment to seek the safety of alternative housing options. The catch, she must compete in games to prove her suitability over the other competitors (Imr’e, Marrick and Jack) whilst it is broadcast live and framed as a social experiment. The games, consisting of solo, group and team tasks, test her morality and surface her deepest fear of being alone.

This show is a dramatic piece of theatre that makes commentary on how young people must navigate the social expectations of life in a time of hyper surveillance and performance in a time of hyper visibility. It suggests that loneliness is the fear of our generation and we are all playing our own fantastic game to avoid confronting the fact that as everyday passes, we are becoming increasingly disconnected from each other.

I feel like the only person who hasn't figured the game out, and I feel like everybody else has left me behind.
