Katie Hill

stage manager, Director, Playwright
Katie Hill (Ngāpuhi) (she/her) is a comedy theatre director based in Pōneke, best known for her love of large ensemble farces and delightfully chaotic storytelling. From 2020 to 2023, Katie was one half of the musical comedy duo and podcast Big Estrogen Energy with Charlotte Glucina. She holds a Master of Arts with Distinction in Theatre and Performance Studies from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Te Whare Ngangahau, where her 2022 research explored gender and comedy. Following her studies, Katie worked as Theatre Administrator for Te Whare Ngangahau, leading the #savevuwtheatre social media campaign in 2023. She then became Events and Engagement Advisor for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, managing major BA events including the Te Kōkī Orchestra Concert and a partnership with the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand. Katie’s recent credits include Jez & Jace (2023), The Cyranoid (2023), Cocked and Reloaded (2023), The Princess and The Knight (2022/23), HAUSDOWN (Development Season) (2023), Celebrity Trevor Island (2024), Two Girls One Gun (2024), and Death, Ray (2025). In 2025, she co-wrote and directed the premiere season of HAUSDOWN at Hannah Playhouse, which received three NZ Fringe Award nominations—Best in Fringe, Spectacular Organised Chaos, and Grand Design—with cast member Zachary Klein winning Most Promising Emerging Artist. HAUSDOWN will feature as a roaming act in the 2026 Cuba Dupa Festival. Katie also directed the seed development children’s theatre show, The Hunt for the Canterbury Panther which will tour the North and South island in 2026. Katie now works as the Artist and Venue Coordinator for the New Zealand Fringe Festival. As part of the 2026 NZ Fringe Festival, Katie is co-directing a two-person clown show called Stupid, Stupid.
